Zen Bound 2 Quick Review

The Zen Bound 2 LogoAside from a few minor changes and the addition of achievement points, this sequel is almost identical to the original version. Despite offering more of the same, Zen Bound 2 for the iOS platform is still a deeply engrossing and challenging puzzle game.

For those unfamiliar with Zen Bound, the goal is to wrap a rope around various wooden figures to gradually fill them with colour. Colouring 70 percent or more of a figure will make a nail shine on which you hang your rope to complete the puzzle. The greater the coverage, the more flowers you will earn, which unlock subsequent levels. Read More…

Zen Bound 2 Features Many Abstract ObjectsZen Bound 2 includes ten worlds with levels shown as wooden tags hanging off a tree. Each tree features a unique background and a specific type of shapes which range from animals and yoga poses to geometric shapes. Completing all of a tree’s puzzles will surround it by butterflies and shining lanterns. Most levels have around 35 flowers to collect.

A new achievement system includes eleven challenging goals, such as collecting 200 flowers or wrapping all the rope around a shape without colouring any of it. These achievements help to add challenge and replay value.

Zen Bound 2 allows players to hold their device any position, with menus and displays flipping automatically. A few items on the heads-up-display have been rearranged and the presentation is slightly more polished, but very faithful to the original. The sound environment and graphics are on par with the first game and players have the ability to listen to their own soundtrack.

I was pleasantly surprised to notice that the game automatically saves your progress, whether backing out of a puzzle or of the game entirely. This saved me a lot of frustration if I accidentally hit the home button.

Those who enjoyed the original Zen Bound will be pleased to have more puzzles to solve. A definite challenge, this fluid puzzle game is great to pick up for a few minutes at a time. Fans of the genre would do well to add Zen Bound 2 to their collection.
