Used in conjunction with a PlayStation Eye camera, the PlayStation Move Motion Controller provides a true 1:1 representation of your actions on screen and a level of precision not found in preceding motion control methods.
The controller is about six inches in length and features a comfortable ergonomic shape. It has a large, centralized “Move” button that serves as the primary input. It also has the standard PlayStation face buttons and the back has a concave trigger referred to as the “T” button. Read More...
Inside the PlayStation Move Motion Controller are a three-axis gyroscope, three-axis accelerometer and terrestrial magnetic field sensor. These allow the controller to detect subtle and fast movements with unprecedented accuracy.
The PlayStation Eye camera tracks a bright glowing sphere to determine the controller’s position in 3D space, allowing for interaction and immersion that is simply not possible with other motion-based controllers.
The face buttons of the PlayStation Move Motion Controller are quite small compared to those on a standard controller and surround the Move button. The T button feels very smooth to operate and it springs back without sticking. The start and select buttons are along the sides of the controller
Calibrating the controller is often as simple as just pointing it at the PlayStation Eye and holding the Move button for a few seconds, though some software will have slightly more complicated methods.
A distance of 2.5 metres (8.5 feet) between a player and the TV is recommended, however I have had no difficulty using the controller at a distance of two metres (six feet). I have been able to play both standing and seated and have had no issues related to lighting; a common problem with camera peripherals in the past.
The PlayStation Move Motion Controller works as advertised and puts the next generation of motion control in players’ hands. The level of precision and accuracy it affords and the ability to manipulate objects in a 3D space are simply unmatched.
