It may not be a huge, high-profile event, but we’re excited to be attending our first industry seminar on February 26, 2009. The Ottawa chapter of the IGDA in association with Interactive Ontario are presenting a speaking session featuring freelance gaming journalist Mathew Kumar as part of the gTalk (no relation to the Google app) game industry speaker series, which, in turn, is part of the GameON program.
Billed here as “Canada’s most renowned games journalist”, Mathew Kumar is a regular contributor at Gamasutra and has also done work for the likes of Eurogamer and Rock, Paper, Shotgun among many others. Lately he’s also been working quite a bit on the Gamasutra offshoot FingerGaming. Read More...
The subject of Mathew’s talk will be "Lessons learned from virtual worlds for game developers - and vice versa". This subject is perfect for us to cover as it relates to serious gaming. The three-and-a-half hour event will also feature a Q&A session as well as afford us some networking opportunities.
The event will take place at bitHeads, which is just up the road on Carling Avenue here in Ottawa. Nathalie and I are both quite excited about this event. I’m going to try to set up a liveblog system before then, but I may just rely on my Twitter feed to take notes. This is also a great chance to justify our recent iPod Touch and BlackBerry purchases, both of which will come in quite handy.
I’d encourage anyone that is able to make it to join us at this event. There is no charge to attend, but the local IGDA chapter coordinator asks that you RSVP as soon as possible.
